Terms of Service

By downloading, installing, or using Chaos Kitten (the "Software"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the Software.

These Terms apply to all users, contributors, and organizations using Chaos Kitten for any purpose.

Chaos Kitten is provided under the MIT License. You are granted a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to:

• Use, copy, modify, merge, publish, distribute, sublicense, and sell copies of the Software
• Use the Software for commercial and non-commercial purposes
• Distribute modified versions under compatible licenses

You may use Chaos Kitten to test APIs that you:

• Own or operate
• Have explicit written permission to test
• Are contractually authorized to perform security assessments on

You MAY NOT use Chaos Kitten to:

• Test APIs without explicit authorization
• Access systems without permission (violating CFAA or similar laws)
• Conduct denial-of-service attacks or impair service availability
• Extract or steal data from unauthorized systems
• Violate applicable laws or regulations
• Use in malware, ransomware, or other malicious software

Chaos Kitten is provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to:

• Merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement
• Error-free operation or uninterrupted use
• Complete vulnerability detection (false negatives possible)
• Compatibility with future versions or third-party services

Security testing tools may produce false positives or miss vulnerabilities. Always validate findings manually.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Chaos Kitten project maintainers, contributors, and affiliates shall not be liable for:

• Any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages
• Loss of profits, revenue, data, or goodwill
• Damage caused by unauthorized use of the Software
• Legal consequences of misuse or unauthorized testing
• Third-party service failures (LLM providers, CI/CD platforms)

Total liability shall not exceed $100 USD or the amount you paid for the Software (zero for open source).

Chaos Kitten integrates with third-party services including:

• LLM Providers: Anthropic Claude, OpenAI GPT – Subject to their Terms of Service
• Browser Automation: Playwright/Chromium – Local execution only
• CI/CD Platforms: GitHub Actions, GitLab CI – Subject to platform terms

You are responsible for complying with all third-party terms and managing your API keys securely.

Contributions to Chaos Kitten are welcome under the MIT License. By submitting code, issues, or documentation, you:

• Grant a perpetual, worldwide license to the project
• Warrant that your contribution is original and doesn't infringe third-party rights
• Agree to follow the Contributor Guidelines

"Chaos Kitten" and related trademarks are owned by the project maintainers. You may use the name for attribution but not in a way that implies endorsement or affiliation.

All contributions become part of the open-source project under the MIT License.

We may suspend or terminate access to Chaos Kitten if you:

• Violate these Terms or applicable laws
• Engage in abusive or harmful conduct
• Repeatedly infringe third-party rights

Open-source licenses are perpetual and irrevocable once granted.

These Terms are governed by the laws of India, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes shall be resolved exclusively in the courts of Pune, Maharashtra, India.

We may update these Terms at any time. Changes will be posted to:

• This page (with updated "Effective" date)
• GitHub repository

Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
